About me
“Nothing about us, without us” is the principle underpinning my work as a therapist who is guided by lived and living experiences.
Hello! I’m Gretta (she/they). I am a late-diagnosed AuDHDer who also has lived experience of POTs, PMDD, autistic burnout and eating differences. Since being diagnosed in my early 30s, neurodivergence has become a special interest area of mine that I feel so fortunate to be able to incorporate into my counselling practice. I am a staunch advocate for accessible, high-quality mental health care, especially for neurodivergent, queer and gender-diverse folks. My lived experiences, in addition to having many beloved peers belonging to the aforementioned communities, have made me highly aware of the importance of validating and affirming support delivered through an intersectional, social lens. I place great value on using my lived experiences to help others and believe that being supported therapeutically by someone who “gets it” is a deeply healing, validating experience. I hope that together we can work holistically and collaboratively to find your glimmers.
How I work: My practice combines talk therapy and practical skills that can help make the day-to-day management of life a little easier. I love a resource and a brain-hack! The foundations of my work are built on person-centred, strengths-based, holistic, affirming care with a healthy dose of psychoeducation woven through. Depending on the client’s individual needs, I draw from and integrate elements from modalities such as narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), ND affirming dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS). I am currently engaging in further study of IFS and somatic techniques.
My glimmers: birdwatching, being in nature, nature documentaries, country op-shops, sunsets/sunrises, music, dancing, the NYT crossword, curling up with a bingeable TV show, sitting around a fire, being near a body of water, the smell of rain, a nice cuppa tea, road trips, belly laughing with good company
